The Private  School Association Kashmir (PSAK) has decided to open their schools from December 16 to provide ‘free’ remedial classes to the students during winter months.

The development comes in wake of the statement by education minister who said that students opting for private tuition was an insult to school teachers.

President PSAK, GN Var said the students will be charged minimal heating and stationery charges during winter months.

“Our association held deliberations with various stake holders and now we have decided to keep schools open in winters. Private tuition has become a huge issue impacting our children physically, mentally and financially too,” he said.

Var,however, said the remedial classes for students will be optional.

“Student is at liberty to join the remedial classes. Besides private schools students, we will also accommodate students from government schools in remedial classes,” he said.

Var said most of the private schools have good infrastructure available for students which remains defunct during winters.

“The students will be helped in their studies with special focus on subjects in which they are weak,” he said.

Var said the amount charged from students for heating, stationary and transport-which is optional, won’t go beyond Rs 1000 per month.
