In CHC Khaltsi, thrombolysis performed on heart attack patient

Doctors under the directorate of health service Kashmir’s Save Heart Initiative performed thrombolysis on a patient who had suffered a heart attack at a remote Community Health Center (CHC) in Khaltsi.

Located over 100 kilometers away from Leh, CHC Khaltsi is the remotest hospital in J&K. The hospital received a 48-year-old non-local patient with inferior wall myocardial infarction (heart attack). “The heart attack could have cost him his life, but due to timely intervention of the team of doctors at the hospital, he is currently doing well,” said a health department official. Dr Tsering Angmo (anaesthetist), Dr Wangchuk (medical officer), Spalzes (lab technician) and others performed thrombolysis on the patient with the help of Save Heart’s Initiative.

The Save Hearts Initiative was launched by DHSK on 21 December 2017. It envisages to cover all major peripheral hospitals under cardiologists Dr Imran Hafeez and Dr Irfan Bhat. Under the system, cardiac emergencies are managed as per the established protocols before referring them to major city hospitals. The initiative also focuses on upgrading cardiac emergency skills of medical officers posted across Kashmir.

Over 125 thrombolysis and around 1300 other cardiac emergencies have been managed under the Save Hearts Initiative at peripheral hospitals of Kashmir since its launch. Director Health Services Kashmir, Dr Saleem ur Rehman appreciated the entire ER Team of both the hospitals and the administrators.
