MERC student selected for Europe Youth Exchange Programme

Abid Rashid Baba, a recent pass out from the media education research centre (MERC) of Kashmir University has been selected for the prestigious IYC Europe Youth Exchange Program for 2018-19.

Baba has been selected for the programme amongst 44 delegates from over 4000 applications from over 90 countries. The programme will take place from 1st – 15th December 2018.

This program is fully sponsored programme with scholarship amount worth approx. 3,000 dollars. It covers to and fro flight ticket from home city to Europe, domestic flight for exposure visits in various educational institutions and sites, local hospitality including accommodation & meals during the stay, local transportation, etc. for 15 days.

“It is a great honour to be part of such programme. I will try my best to do something extraordinary with limited resources.”  Baba said adding that he got the confirmation call from International Youth Committee Secretariat.

Last year, Abid represented the state in an International Conference on peace, conflict and violence in Lahore Pakistan. He was also selected for the 23rd Asia Pacific Youth Conference in Pune.

Currently freelancing with various organisations, Baba expressed his gratitude to director Radio Kashmir Srinagar, Syed Humayun Qaisar.

“He has been instrumental in shaping my career path” Baba told Greater Kashmir.

An alumnus of Baramulla Degree College, Baba lives in a remote hamlet of the district. Baba studied at Green Land English medium School till 8th standard before he moved to Government Higher Secondary School Baramulla.
